Sunday at the races
Mom and Jeff came down this weekend to hang out and attend the National Hotrod Association (NHRA) Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Southern Nationals event here in Georgia.
If you haven't been to drag races before there is no way that you can get a feel for it by watching on TV. The experience is completely different, as TV can't capture the noise of the engines and smells of burning rubber and nitro.
We had seats right in front of the starting line and I got some great pics and video (coming soon). If you ever have a chance to go to drag races in person, I highly recommend it. The top fuel cars generate 7000+ horsepower and more horsepower in a single cylinder than a NASCAR car does in its entire engine. The top fuel dragsters and funny cars were doing just over 4 second quarter miles at 310-320 miles per hour. They reach 100 miles per hour in under 1 second. Even the motorcycles hit 180+ miles per hour. Talk about a "crotch rocket".
Once you've been to the drag races, you'll quickly realize that NASCAR and F1 are for wussies;)

Wai Off-Topic Forums
I've participated in Internet discussion forums for years on topics like gaming, software development, politics, religion and basically whatever. Forums have provided me with a way to learn, teach, debate and discuss and make a few friends and foes along the way.
I'd been hanging around the Total BF2 forums for a few months until they had a nasty divorce with the original site creator, GameWizard, which lead to the Fever Gaming forums. At first it seemed like a cool place to hang out, but over time it got to the point where it was becoming increasingly over-moderated and decreasingly fun. I'd tried to discuss it with the mods in a productive way, but they weren't responding at all, so I decided to quit and start my own place... The Wai Off-Topic Forums.
My initial goal with The Wai Off-Topic forums is to provide a place for the friends I've made on other forums to come to hang out without a ton of rules to follow. Beyond that, I don't know where it will go.
Setting up the forums also gave me a chance to dive into PHP and MySQL for the first time. I've been a ColdFusion, Java and SQLServer developer for a long time, so it's nice to have the chance to learn new things.
Feel free to join the forums and bring your friends. Cheers!

Bill Maher at the Fox
DRE* and I went to see Bill Maher at the Fox Theater this past Friday night. He was quite entertaining, as usual. I'd say that he recycled about 25% of the stuff from his tour last year, but he was funny anyway. There was a reprise of "Master P's Theater" where he translates rap lyrics into "white", which is good for some belly laughs. He's a little too political for DRE*, but that type of humor is right up my alley. His onslaught on Bush was relentless, and I liked it;)

Cool Firefox Extension: StumbleUpon
I came across a very interesting toolbar plug-in for FireFox called StumbleUpon. It initially asks you for you to select categories that interest you and then you click the "Stumble" button on your toolbar and it whisks you away to a site that fits your interests. Then you can give it a thumbs-up or thumbs-down which will further improve the results of later "stumbles". Periodically it will ask you to select more interests and further refine what you get. It came up with some cool and wild sites that I might not have found otherwise. Check it out.
