| Los Sueños Marriott Resort was wonderful! Well, being upgraded to a beautiful suite overlooking the enormous pool and the Pacific Ocean did not hurt either! They also had a large marina, where we saw a lot of fishing boats and yachts - and, of course, a scenic view of the hills beyond the resort. | ||||

| Shawn even enjoyed a round of golf at Marriott's own Iguana golf course. It was beautifully cut through the majestic rain forest. Dre even enjoyed driving the golf cart (replete with Heineken on ice) and enjoying the view! | ||||

| Shawn and Dre went far off the beaten path, deep into the jungle to discover some of Costa Rica's highest waterfalls - Bijagual Waterfalls. The tour we went on combined horseback riding and a strenuous hike. The reward was a swim in the invigorating (read: cold and murky) waters of the naturally formed pools. | ||||

We drove through some of the most scenic countryside, including mountains, rain forests, valleys and pastoral scenes en route to Costa Rica's most active Volcano. Arenal Volcano is constantly erupting. When it is not hidden in clouds, it is visible from the Tabacón Resort and Hot Springs. We stayed at the resort and spent two wonderful days in the hot springs. As a result of the weather, we only caught a couple of glimpses of the volcano in the daylight, but we managed to witness two small eruptions from the dinner table on the second evening. |

Small Image | Large Image Shawn was in charge of driving the ugliest, small 4-wheel in Costa Rica! Joy! |
Small Image | Large Image We stopped for lunch at a very creepy and deserted hotel. It reminded us of "The Shining". |

| We spent the afternoon of our second day at Tabacón enjoying a private river rafting safari. Our guide trained us to call howler monkeys, and we even spotted a group, who answered our calls! We stopped at a banana plantation to look at poison dart frogs and at a spartan yet rustic house to enjoy coffee, pineapple, bread and cheese with its 93 year old resident. He explained to us that the secret to living so long was "not dying"! | ||||

Small Image | Large Image The majestic (brown) river... |
Small Image | Large Image Watch out for that crocodile! |
Small Image | Large Image The recent rains caused the erosion, which muddied the river. |
Small Image | Large Image Maybe if I smile more it will stop raining. |
Small Image | Large Image This is another kind of of poison dart frog. |
Small Image | Large Image This frog looks like it is wearing blue jeans. |

Río Tárcoles is infested with crocodiles and garbage from San José. From the bridge above, it was very fun to watch the crocodiles jump and snap at the chickens that the tourists would throw at them! |

Small Image | Large Image After the sixth cable, the challenge is gone for Shawn. |
Small Image | Large Image But getting off of the cable is another story... Ow! I have a major wedgie! |
Small Image | Large Image This is a view of the "honeymoon suite", where the guides will gladly leave you for the night. |
Small Image | Large Image Shawn and Dre agreed that the Marriott was a lot better than the "honeymoon suite". |
Small Image | Large Image Dre earned a nice meal back at the resort - corn tortillas and beef and papaya hash! Delicious! |
|||
| On the way back from Tabacón, we decided to take a detour to stop at Poas Volcano and at Sarchi. Poas Volcano is actually one of the largest craters in the world, a supposedly impressive sight with an emerald green lake at the bottom. Unfortunately, the only things we saw were rain and clouds. The weather was just as miserable in Sarchi, home of the arts and crafts of Costa Rica, such as ox carts and wooden furniture. | ||||
|
Small Image | Large Image Dre gives Poas Volcano a big thumbs down. |
Small Image | Large Image We stopped in Sarchi just in time for lunch. |

Small Image | Large Image Caution! Cows are crossing everywhere! |
| On our last full day in Costa Rica it was looking rainy at Los Sueños, so we were torn between spending the day at the spa or heading down to Manuel Antonio National Park. Fortunately for us, we picked the park. The weather was perfect and it was totally worth the drive. The park is known for its beautiful views, white sand beaches and diverse wildlife. We hired our own guide and spent hours hiking around watching animals. Manuel Antonio is a must do if you go to Costa Rica. | ||||
